20 mins into the movie & I asked myself, that in all the
Indian movies that I have seen, why the sidekicks of the antagonist are usually
big , fat , dark & mostly unshaven . Is that some-kind of racism that we
have chosen to ignore over the years or may be a convenient image of somebody
possibly threatening us (physically). Also, the ever echoing sounds of trumpets
, that Rohit Shetty puts in the backdrop , every time Ranveer Singh twirls his
mustache on screen ... God.. Tell me something I already don’t know ( Spoiler
Alert - Original dialogue from the movie ) .
The movie starts with simmBu ( Lil SimmBa ) , showcasing an
orphan having skyhigh confidence in things which seasonal professionals would
hold expertise of. Oh yes & Trumpets have already started. SimmBu
grows up with the idea of how much a money a police officer can harness
(unofficially of-course) through the power & trust entrusted in one by the
public & government . Thankfully, little simmbu didnt get to see the
potential of Godmen business in India & chooses to become a Police officer
( Oh actually a senior Police Officer ) by .. well... a convenient time jump ( NAICE ) ..
So simmbu is now SimmbA ( U -à
A ... that’s for Ranveer’s lusty body language ) & trumpets go on again ,
but this time , with a fixed time interval of 343 seconds . Scene, dialogues,
body language don’t matter ... Trumpets keep on going in all their might . In
one scene actually, trumpets blowing on full force are phased out with a DJ
playing music in a club ... For some
reason the DJ isn’t playing the trumpet.. GAWD what’s happening ... SimmBa aala
re ..
I manage to survive through the interval , with some good angry
old man hysteria from Ashutosh Rana , who inspite of being a head constable ,
shouts his lungs out on the much senior ranking officer , well pretty much in
every scene . He would have been better off as the main Antagonist , which is
played by Sonu Muscle Sood , who well is kept for flexing his DOLAS only ( &
i mean literally ) . Poor guy doesn’t even gets to commit a serious crime (
oops spoiler alert )
Post interval is a time slowing slugfest, where you feel
every minute spend watching the screen is 1 hr of your time doing something
better with your life, much like Miller’s planet in Interstellar . SimmBa
realises he hasn’t been on righteous path , blames himself for certain things ,
has a moment of reckoning , goes after the bad guys , blah blah blah &
blaaaah ( oh don’t forget the trumpets !!! ) .
Just when you thought, Rohit SHetty is going to do away his
mandatory jumping car scenes , enters Bajirao Singham , with his revolving SUV
& misfit shirts . At this very moment, the title of the movie made sense to
me . Singham ( BIG LION ) . SimmBa ( Little Lion a.k.a Naaty Pussy ) . Hats off
to whoever had this brilliant idea. Spoiler alert, there’s a Medium size
Soorvyanshi LiON also in this .. Wonder how the original LION KING would feel
about this .. !!
Did I miss something , ... ,... , .. oh yes there’s 12 mins of Sara
Ali Khan ( including the time for 2 songs ) . SimmBa’s assistant got more
screen time than her, wonder how begging Rohit Shetty for a role like this
would help Sara .
So , the movie is a must for all you trumpet lovers &
mustache twirlers . If you can find something else to love about this flick,
then congratulations you have attained nirvana & now can see positive in
even the bleakest of situations.
